Small details, better drinks
- IBA specifies a few dashes. Two is an approximate working count, not an exact volume.
- This version uses a sugar cube. A syrup variation needs a specified concentration and quantity.
- Do not shake: the drink should remain clear rather than aerated.
Good to know
Bourbon or rye?
IBA allows either. They give different flavor profiles, and individual bottles may have different strengths.
Can I use simple syrup?
Yes, as a variation. There is no universal volume that equals every sugar cube and syrup concentration. This base recipe uses a cube.
Is the alcohol calculation complete?
No. Alcoholic bitters are dispensed in dashes of uncertain volume. The known-liquid result excludes their unmeasured contribution.
