How to make it
Click a step number to mark it as done.
Prepare a strong espresso and let it cool briefly so it is no longer piping hot. Chill a glass.
Measure vodka, coffee liqueur, syrup and espresso into a shaker.
Add fresh ice and shake vigorously to aerate the coffee.
Strain into empty chilled glasses and place three coffee beans on the foam in each glass.
Small details, better drinks
- IBA calls for one espresso. This page explicitly assumes 30 ml for its volume calculations.
- Kahlúa strengths differ by market and product; check the bottle rather than assuming a category value.
- Do not leave hot coffee sitting on ice before shaking: it melts the ice prematurely.
Good to know
How do I get a foamy top?
Use espresso and shake vigorously with fresh ice. Coffee characteristics also affect the foam, so results vary.
Can I use cold brew?
You can make a variation, but its concentration, flavor and foam differ. It is not treated as a one-for-one replacement here.
Does it contain vermouth?
No. This recipe has no vermouth; its name does not describe the ingredients of a classic Martini.
