How to make it
Click a step number to mark it as done.
Measure rum, lime juice, syrup and soda into a highball glass.
Add mint and press gently with a spoon to release its aroma without shredding the leaves.
Add crushed ice to about three-quarters of the glass and mix from the bottom.
Top with more crushed ice and a mint sprig. Serve immediately. Optionally add a lime wheel or wedge as garnish.
Small details, better drinks
- Make 1:1 syrup with equal weights of sugar and water; let it cool first.
- Dry sugar is not an equal-volume replacement for syrup. It changes both sweetness and texture.
- For several servings, build individual glasses and leave ice and soda until serving.
Good to know
Do I need a muddler?
No. A rounded spoon works for gently pressing mint. Avoid sharp utensils that tear the leaves.
Can I use ice cubes?
This manufacturer recipe calls for crushed ice. Cubes chill and dilute differently, so the result will differ.
Which rum should I choose?
Use a white rum. The calculation starts at 40% ABV; check your bottle because strengths vary by market.
