How to make it
Click a step number to mark it as done.
Chill a cocktail glass. If desired, moisten part of the rim with lime and dip it in salt.
Measure tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice into a shaker.
Add ice cubes and shake vigorously until the shaker is cold.
Discard the glass-chilling ice and strain in the drink, leaving shaking ice behind. A lime wheel or wedge is optional garnish, not an extra measure of juice.
Small details, better drinks
- Triple sec strengths vary. The calculation assumes 40% until you change it.
- Do not automatically add syrup: this is a particular classic specification.
- For multiple drinks, work in batches that leave room for the ice to move.
Good to know
What is the classic Margarita ratio?
This IBA version uses 50 ml tequila, 20 ml triple sec and 15 ml fresh lime juice per serving.
Do I need salt on the rim?
No. An optional half-rim lets you choose a sip with or without salt.
Is this a Margarita on the rocks?
No. It is served up in a chilled glass. Serving over fresh ice is a different presentation.
